1959 economy tractor

Need a little help on a 1959 Economy tractor. What engine did it come with? Does anyone have a hood for this model. Ser # 6388. Thanks for your help,

The serial number only dates the tractor as they were offered with different model/hp engines ( Briggs and Kohler). Both of my tractors have 12hp Kohler engines, one is a 1966 and the other had a paper tag that the PO painted over and is now unreadable. I've found no way to track what engine was installed in a particular tractor. The only way to guess is to see if the current engine was available during the time frame the tractor was built. As far as hoods go early models did not have hoods, I do not know when they became available. E-bay has 2 hoods for sale. A picture of your tractor would go a long way in helping you with questions..

In picking up the tractor. Tomorrow and will post a picture. It has a Briggs engine on it but not sure if it's original or not. Gas tank is square or rectangle and not round like some. The tank is on the left side and looking at other tractors in that General serial number this one did have a hood. A small hood with some cut outs for gas tank, front pulley ,etc. I will know more tomorrow. Thanks

Ok, here is a picture of the tractor. Not a good picture but maybe you can tell something about it.

Looking at the picture I do not believe that tractor had a hood. If you look on E-bay for "Economy-Garden-Tractor-SICKLE-BAR-ATTACHMENT " it shows the same tractor without a hood. The Jim Dandy, a smaller version tractor made by Economy had a hood. My brother in law had one, will post picture if I can of it and my tractor. The Jim Dandy is on the right.

I bought one a few days ago, serial#3439, makes it a 1954 model and it has a 10 horse power Briggs- Stratton engine on it and no hood.

Here are more pictures. Picked up the tractor this morning and got it running. Has not ran in 2 years.looks like a carb. leak is the only issues so far. I drove it in the driveway and all gears are good. Only has one brake on right side.(hand brakes). I guess it is missing in the left or did they come with one brake?

Looks all original except for the front bumper. Yes it should have two breaks and I see it is missing the air breather, other wise it appears to be in good condition...

Your tractor is a Power King not a Jim Dandy. It should have a hood on it. I have a 1958 Power King but mine has the 16" wheels whereas yours has the larger 24" wheels. Mine is serial number 5886. It has the same Briggs and Stratton engine which starts first pull every time. It has the same square gas tank as yours and the hood has a cutout to go around the tank. It should have two brakes one on each side. Your rear tires are in excellent condition judging from the pictures. It appears as tho someone added foot rest. Good Idea, I think I'll put some on mine. The bumper was added later and also a good idea. When you find an air cleaner for it, be careful about tightening it up cause you can pull that rod right up thru the bottom of the carb. Your brakes are different than mine, mine has foot brakes.
