Do you have more than 1600 hours on your kohler?

I have a 20 hp kohler command with 1600 hours. I responsible for 1200. It's on a terramite, T5C. The left cylinder has had an issue ever since I got it. It's passed all tests. Doesn't use oil. I Plans are to remove head when it warms up and find out why. I'm hoping to get many more hours out of this girl

I been googling terramites on craigslist. Those in find have about 1500 hours and most say just replaced the engine. Even found a few with 20 hp hondas with 2500 hours, just replaced the engine.

I Googled kohler head gasket problems. Yep, found those along with valve and push rod issues.

A new engine from small engine warehouse runs around $1800. After tax and shipping I'm looking at $2k.

So, what the most hours you got on your kohler command?

What does your craigslist say about terramites with kohlers or hondas? Have they replaced the engine too?

The terramite requires a special engine with out put shaft on flywheel side, so that might be why the engine is more expensive.

I have seen CH25 Kohler engines with 2500 hours on them and still running strong. If it is weak on one cylinder, pull it apart and put a piston and ring set in it and should be good to go. someone correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure the Kohler Command engines use a hardened cylinder sleeve, so they will get very little wear and they do not even offer OS pistons for that reason because the sleeve cannot be bored properly. The engines I have seen down with 2500-3000 hours still show some cross hatch, but rings and piston are worn, but not cylinder
