Honda 4518 won't start backfires

That has the 2 cyl. Honda engine on it right?
The last one of those I saw that backfired like that had a broken timing belt. And its a job to change it, you have to pull the engine. Parts are not cheap either.

Another possibility might be a couple of stuck valves.

Thanks for the reply, Funny thing is that when I spray gas in the carb it runs till it uses up the gas in the carb. Fuel pump is working carb is working but on its own it trys to start but backfires. Can I rule out the valves if it runs? Could be timing how do you set the timing on that GX640 Honda motor anyone??

Sorry I may be a little off but my Briggs two cylinder engine sounds like you and it had a partially cut key. Almost the same problems you have. The twos are very sensitive.

I don't understand cut key

I think he means the flywheel key is partially sheared, which changes the timing and other problems.

That it runs on fuel poured in the carb is most helpful info!

Your carburetor is not feeding enough fuel for the engine to run. It is probably stopped up somewhere.
