Tim:

Your needs should dictate what to buy.

What jobs are you looking to do? ...Mowing? ...Snow plowing or Snow blowing? ....Garden plowing & discing? ....Tilling?

I was involved in the lawn equipment business for 25+ years. ....We would listen to what the customer wanted to do, and then recommend different options.

For less than 2 acres, with grass-cutting the priority, a GOOD riding mower would often out-perform a tractor with a mower deck. ....Riding mowers can pull a cart, but no ground-engaging attachments can be used.

There are GOOD QUALITY used riding mowers available for well under your budget ($200-$500 range).

Sometimes, it is better to buy a separate mower for grass cutting, a separate tiller for gardening, and a separate snow blower, than to buy a tractor with multiple attachments.

The Bolens tube-frame tractors were good quality, with many used attachments available, depending on your geographic area. ....However, the Bolens XL tractors did NOT use the commonly-found tube-frame attachments, so finding attachments for an XL tractor is not very easy.

My e-mail is open, if you would like to discuss this matter further.
