About 20 years ago I was in your shoes - a
place in the country with lots of mowing
(several acres in my case) and a limited budget
to work with. I ended up buying a nice-looking
Deere 212 from the mid-70's with a 48" mower
for just over a thousand. Not the fastest
thing around but a good, reliable, and cost-
effective machine. That tractor is still alive
and well today and has many more years of
service left. In my opinion a garden tractor
from the 70's or early 80's is a good
investment. Deere, Cub Cadet, Power King,
Speedex - they all made good, heavy-duty
tractors that make most stuff made today pale
in comparison, at least among the affordable
choices. And, if you take care of them,
machines like this will probably always be
worth at least what you pay for them now so if
you change your mind down the road and sell it
you won't be out anything.
