Cub cadet 1711

So last season i picked up a cub cadet 1711 tractor and deck in great shape. Kohler kt 17 series 2 burned a little oil but ran good. Well end of season she sprung a big time oil leak up front by the pto. Tractor has about 2000 hours on it. Where is best place to get parts. I paid 500 for the tractor. Is this worth sinking money in to? Tractor and deck are excellent. Should i go for the gold and give it new pistons and rings while its apart or just do the front seal and use it? I do like the tractor and its solid, i just dont want to end up deeper than its worth.

Sounds like the front crank seal failed. 2000 hours on that engine is about all one can normally expect. I overhauled my 1710 at 2200 hours. I used the CC Service manual . Wasn't overly difficult nor need for specialized tools, just time consuming.
BTW, it is important not to overfill the oil level, since that can create excessive pressure on crank seals

IMHO..........

It is worth rebuilding the KT-17 as opposed to buying a new tractor that you will spend $2000+ only to throw it away in 5 years.

The 1711 (the newer version of the 782) is a well built tractor and will offer many years of service with good and proper maintenance.

Check out the oil press. sending unit, mine leaked where the plastic met the metal hex body. The way it blew smoke and oil over the muffler and all I thought it was a lot worse than it was.
