Plowing with a JD 345

After 20 years I finally got a front blade installed on my 345. I have chains and lots of weight on the rear, so it does a real nice job - much cleaner than using the farm tractor and back blade.

But with the plow down, I have very little steering control. Has anyone tried to resolve this with front wheel weights, or loading the front tires? I can't hang a suitcase weight on the front bar - it won't clear the plow frame.

Thanks,
Tim

put your weight on the back wheels and any other weight as close to the center of the tractor as possible. I had similar problems and somewhat helped my steering by changing to Vredestein 5-rib front tires. Much better control on my JD425 with front blade.

How many hyds on your tractor , 1-2-or 3 remote valves? On my JD 140 i have 3 and on my earlier model, 140 i had 1 but on both tractors i had and have a float position , your tractor doesn't ??? that's what you need to be using, to make the blade float and easy controlled steering. Then when not in float you can release the lever and get down pressure scraping action.

No remote outlets on this tractor. Just hydraulic arms that lift the mower and, with the lift kit, the front blade. So no down power. I guess you would say the blade is always in float when down.

Try adjusting blade shoes lower as you may be taking too big of a bite. Also steering brakes are needed depending on snow.
