110 rearend

there are detent balls that are supposed go into grooves on shifting fork shafts to prevent what you are asking. One or more of the springs under the detent balls are broken which allows the shifter forks to slide without the shift lever moving them. You have to disassemble the transmission to fix it. I jut did that to my 4 speed 112 and found broken gears and shafts in there, It's now back together with a Gilson rear end and working fine. Actually both tractors use a Peerless transmission. Someone will know where you can find a parts diagram Maybe JD parts online.
