scotts riding mower transmission interchangability??

I have a 25 hp. 54" mower with a bad transmission. replacement cost from a JD dealer is absolutely ridiculous.

Recently found a really nice 17hp 42" mower on craigslist that I can buy for a small fraction of the transmission cost for the 2554.

Question: are the transmissions the same?

You would have to get the model number of both mowers and then have the dealer look both up to see if its the same transmission.

Also, some Scotts mowers were actually Murray products, not John Deere. The only parts that resemble each other between Deere and Murray are the hoods.

The other thing you can do is get the model number off the transmission itself (I hope its still on there) and see if you can find that transmission on Ebay or online somewhere.

no there not the same urs is a lawn an garden the craigslist one is a lawn tractor
most likely its on craigslist because the tranny is going out of it they were light duty
