gravely walkbehind gearlube

90wt should cover ya. Look for that level plug. Check the oil level with the gear box level to the ground. I have the rotary plow and the same head is tilted. You get the idea. That baby has one big BRASS gear and you do not want to tear it up!!!

When you say gearbox, are you speaking of the tractor differential gear box?
If so, it shares its lubrication with the engine crankcase and uses engine oil; 40W in summer,20W when temps are between 10 and 32 and 10W below 10 deg. Well that's what they recommended in the old days; I think a good 10W40 would suffice in this day and age.
Gravely recommended 140 gear oil in the "Rotary Plow" gear box but a good quality modern 80-90 gear oil would probably work.

In the Gravely engine walk behind, the engine and transmission shared the same oil. In the later models powered by Kohler (or other brand) engines the recommended transmission oil was 10w30 motor oil.

The tillers (Gravely called them cultivators) called for either 90w or 140w oil---at least for the older models.

There are several websites that have copies of many of the owners, parts, and service manuals posted. One example is:

Sta-Lube Hypoid SAE-140, API GL4 sold at Napa, is one oil that is compatible with yellow metal, if there is a concern about same with these, as it was mentioned below, having a brass or bronze gear.
