Getting the Haban 402E mounted on a Cub Cadet 1200

A year or two ago I picked up this Haban sickle mower at a local consignment sale for a pair of $20 bills. I knew it wouldn't be a direct fit on my Cadet 100 but it was too good of a deal to pass up. Anyway, my dad had this 1200 that was just taking up space in his shed so I brought it to my place and have been working on marrying the two together. Except for the pieces that mount the rear support tube to the drawbar it is all complete and in pretty good shape. Once I fabricate the hitch parts and get a drive belt it should be ready to try out. Not sure why the standard sickle guards had been replaced by standard "range guards" since it appears that it never got much use.

I don't know whether or not you have used one of these little mowers, but if not, I think you will be
very pleased with its performance.
I have one for my Ford LGT-125 and it amazes me how much it will cut.
One of the reasons it works so well is because of the "live" PTO.
I have the traditional guards like yours and I think they are the best if you're gonna cut some real hay.

I've never used one before (or even seen one run in person) and am looking forward to trying it out. I won't use it a lot since I bought it more as a novelty but I am hoping it works along the road where the ditch bank is too steep for the tractor. According the the Haban literature the bar's cutting range goes to 45 degrees down so I should be able to hang the bar into the ditch from the road.

I have two Haban Sickle-Mos for the Bolens tractors. One for the tube frames and one for the large frames.

Not only will they mow at 45* down, they will mow at 90* up.

It will do a fine job on that ditch:

Haban recommended that you to put a wheel weight on the left side though, as the tractor can get a bit tippy with that cutter bar hanging out on the side. I'd advise you to heed that. Even with the wheel weight, the left front of the G10 would occasionally want to lift.

I prefer using my large frame as it uses the hydraulics to raise/lower the cutter bar.

I also have duals on the large frame and that makes a huge difference in stability. You can see the difference in these pics

Hi Brandon, you done good sure couldn't pass up a deal like that and its in great shape, yes they can be handy for road ditches and clipping weeds etcHave you checked out the Haban yahoo site they have lots of good information there.

Old Buzzard,

I install a piece of heavy railroad track on the
left side for balance as I do mow some pretty
steep banks.
I also mount a small "suitcase" weight on the
front as the drag of the mower tends to pull the
front end to the right.
You are right about being able to cut up 90 deg
and down 45 deg.
For bigger areas I have an Allis WD-45 with a side
mounted "Twin-Wheel" mower which also mows 90 up
and 45 down.
Sickle bar mowers consume much, much less power
than either regular finish mowers or "bush hogs"
as they slice rather than chop and grind the
grass.
