Gravely 8122 rider broken axle

While plowing snow today the right rear axle broke on my rider ( purchased new in 1980) first problem!Need some help in getting the right part(s).
1.Do the 800 & 8000 use the same axle?
2.Whats the best& easy way to make repair
3.Anyone have axles forsale?

Broken axle? Sounds serious! My local Gravely dealer always lets me look over his parts tractors before scaring me with "new" prices. You're looking at $250.00 for an axle shaft.

Your axle may not be broken. The hub is held to the axle with a woodruff key as shown in the diagram above. The axle and hub wear at this interface resulting in a freewheel condition. Is this what happened to yours?
 
Pauljac, No the axle broke very clean break like it was cut with saw.. have replacement axle on the way, only 3000 hrs on my 8122 . Looking @ shop manual to remove axles the case needs to split...not a fun job but manual has good info . Thanks
 
Hi, I broke a cylinder rod once and had it
welded at a machine shop. They. Did it on
a lathe. Very reasonable cost. Good luck!
