Cub Cadet hydro broken bolt

I have a Cub Cadet Hydro transmission with a broken bolt that holds the transmission in the tractor. It looks like I will have to pull the trumpet off the left side to get the broken bolt out. Am I right in thinking the has to be a C clip or something holding the axle in the differential and I will have to remove the hitch and cover off the back to find it? What other surprise might I find besides oil all over the floor?

Dave, I am assuming you have an IH cub cadet, not the later MTD that I am not familiar with.

I am certain you will have to remove a c-clip that retains the axle in the differential. There are almost 2 gallons of oil in there, so be ready for it. I don't know if the later transmission cases had the drain underneath or not.

I have no idea what tractor the rear end came out of. All I have is the rear end that I am putting in the rear of a Wards Squire. I took the rear cover plate off and got no where near 2 gallons of oil out of it. I think most of it was lost when someone to the filter off the front end. The inside end of the axle had a large E ring on it to keep it from coming out. Thanks.
