Cub cadet transmission question (follow up)

About a month ago I asked if you can swap the ring gear in a cub cadet Original transmission to the other side of the pinion and then power it off the pto end of the crank of an engine. (Otherwise, if you leave the transmission alone, you have 3 speeds in reverse.)

I finally had time to get into that job today. The info that was posted was very helpful. The only snag was that I had to modify the case a tiny bit to get the carrier back in with the ring gear on the left side of the pinion.

The snag was that there is a boss with a hole in it just to the right of the center bottom bolt hole. I presume it was used for another application and it had to be removed in order for the ring gear to be inserted that way. I sawed it off with my sawsall, then cleaned out the chips.

Now for brakes, as this frankenstein unit somehow ended up with later axles that have disk brakes on them.

Thanks for all your help.

my fist q is what are you wanting the end result to be used for.will the disc brakes work for you??.do you know what the front of the bottom shaft looks like, that will determine the best, easiest way for brakes...

I guess it will only be something just to ride around at shows. And a little bit different from anything somebody else has.

As far as the front of the bottom shaft, remember this is/was an Original C/C and it doesn't have any place for the internal brake, if that is what you are leading up to. I haven't had the gear reduction apart, but it appears the clutch shaft in this one goes in the housing below the top shaft in the transmission.

What I ended up with was a brake shaft just below the front of the reduction box and utilized the brake linkage from the same transaxle that donated the brake calipers for each axle. With some modifications, of course.

I test drove it for just a few minutes tonight, and it seems like everything is going to work.
