Other members can do as they see fit but I REFUSE to post advice on how to defeat safety switches. The reason such switches are on your tractor is because it is the LAW and the law came about because children and adults were being injured by lawn tractors moving in reverse.

Would you also like information on how to remove the seat belts in your car or prevent all the air bags from working? It amounts to the same thing. Learn to live with the RIO. The life you save may belong to someone you really care about.

I'll assume this is a John Deere garden tractor.

On most JD garden tractors built in the past 10 years or so, you just pull UP on the PTO switch before going into reverse, and everything will stay running. Some had a separate push button you pressed. OF course, you have to do that everytime you go into reverse, but at least they give you that option, not all manufacturers do. I think cub cadet offers it on some models as well.

How that feature works for your model should be in your owners/operators manual if you have it, but its most likely the pull up on the pto switch method. you should only have to pull it up until you engage reverse. as long as you stay in reverse, you can let go of the switch. once you leave reverse, you'll have to pull it up again next time.
