(quoted from post at 07:55:25 11/20/14) 800 ought to have a Wisconsin 7 horse- model S7D.

Really.... well tractordata.com shows the 800 can have an S7D(304cc) w/3" bore... OR... an S8D(331cc) w/3.125" bore... the engine tag on this one shows 3.125" bore x 2.625" stroke.

Lance's 800 is correct if it's a 1964 or 1965.

There is a lot off misinformation about the 800, most of it caused by a typographical error made by Bolens in their "Tractor Models And Specifications" list. For one reason or another, the 1964 and 1965 are listed as being the 900 instead of the 800, and confusion reigns to this day.

In 1963 it came in two models, 186-01 (manual start) and 187-01 (electric start).

In 1964 the model number was changed to 188-01 and it came with the S-8D engine. However, we have see some 1964's with a 7 stamped on the right side of the model tag, and those DID have the S-7D. There is speculation that Bolens either didn't get the S-8D engines soon enough for the start of the 1964 production run, OR that they decided to use what S-7D engines that they had left in stock before using the 'new' S-8D engines

In 1965 it was model 188-02, again with the S-8D.

As for the 900, the only difference between it and the 800 is that it has a fiberglass seat/fender pan, a different seat, and larger front and rear tires. Mechanically they are identical.

Maybe so or maybe Tractor Data is wrong. I worked
for a Bolens dealer late 60s, early 70s. I never
saw an 800 with anything but an S7D. My dealer
Bolens books show the same. But who knows? 850
tractors, yes.

Buzzards post is correct. Bolens Information was not always correct.

Over the years alot of misinformation was posted all over forums.
I dont put much faith in the Data posted for the Bolens tractors as most of the time people were just going by what they read somewhere or just guessed.....

Well for the purpose of the original post I dont it makes alot of differance... it looks like an 800 and it has an 8hp engine w/electric start. I drove it around the yard a little today, all the gears and hi-lo work, some casting broken away from around the diff locking pin but it does still lock. Its in rough condition but could be restored, I just dont have the time for it so its for sale
