battery suggestion

You pose a good question.
I have tried all brands. Some last one year, other 5-6. Shortest lasting was one from Tractor Supply. Interstate has done good and the ones from Auto zone has done well. They are made by Johnson electric which is an old company that ought to know how to make them by now.
I also watch tha cca. I have had longer life with those with higher cca, eventhough they cost more.
I have never tried a Diehard. Will consider that next time.

I hope there are more responses to your question. ....and I am tired of having to log in every time......

Greenfrog, if you are using windows.

"I am tired of having to log in every time......"

Why do you have to log in I don't

At the top of the screen right side it says welcome my name (Log Out)

If you log out you will have to log in when you come back.

Don't Log Out .. if you want to go to another topic use the blue White arrow Top Left if you want to leave the discussion - click on the RED X very top right then choose another board discussion.
I have saved about 7 boards with the favorites bar

Go to the question about chargers. I have found that over chargeing will fry them and cold will also kill them. Correct conditions will let them last the longest. In winter "about right NOW" I pull all of the lawn machine batterys and put them in the basement on a wood pallet. Hook a HF $29.00 automatic charger to them that I rotate it around all of them every few days and in the spring everyone works.

I have a car battery in my garden tractor from Walmart. I have to use the 75 battery with the side terminals so it clears the hood. I gave it to my nephew back in March for his Chevy truck. The battery is over 11 years old. I bought another Walmart battery last year for the tractor.

PS: You can see the battery in this pic.

I use Walmart's batteries in all my vehicles. If one fails during the first 3 years you get a new battery. I even have one in my Kohler standby generator. Hal

+1 Exactly!
Mine are all lined up on a board in the shop now other than what is powering snow equipment. I have 4 of the cheapo $10 HF maintainers. They keep the batteries at 12.5- 12.6 V,

(quoted from post at 14:25:00 11/15/14) What brand do you consider a good garden (lawn) tractor battery? Thanks
There are only two manufacturers of batteries in the U.S. and Sears is not one.

I have an "Everstart" in a Husqvarna from 2009, still cranks strong! I've read many reviews about Autozone not lasting for more than one season. Heat and vibration kill batteris, and improper charging. top off with distilled water AFTER charging, and do NOT charge above 2 amps.

The battery in my Cadillac is 8 years old, still strong. It is under the back seat, no heat or vibration. Cleaned and checked every year.

I lived in Canada for 20 years, and proved batteries can be stored on concrete w/o problems. FIrst clean the battery, if a multimeter can show voltage when dragging the + across the top, it needs cleaning. When clean, I left two batteries out of a new F-350 diesel on concrete all winter. No charging ever. Next spring, either one would start both 350 GM V-8's in my Chris-Craft at the same time. Do not wire brush the posts, use a terminal cleaner with blades. I used petroleum jelly on the connections. At -40 what works shows up real fast.
BTW, the Ford dealer said the batteries were dead, my neighbor gave them to me. He got two new ones under warranty. So much for battery testing.

When I worked for the Army at a Proving Ground we tested all vehicles for starting at -65F and the best for starting was a Soviet vehicle with two engines what looked like Chrysler six cylinder flatheads.

They had a coolant heater that ran on gasoline to preheat the engines. It not only heated the coolant, the oil pan was shrouded where the exhaust heated the oil pan.

We preheated the engines for one hour, not on my decision and both engines started when you hit
the starter button. This vehicle had no batteries
and we bought Sears Diehard. We let the vehicle
soak for another 24 hours at -65 and we started the coolant heater and after 10 minutes of preheat
the heater quit. The project engineer ask me what could we do. I said turn on all your instrumentation and see if the engines will start.
Both started like summertime. We used the same batteries. Hal
