48in deck with this model. I have been plagued all summer with the pto belt rolling over. I can tell by the sound and a smell of hot belt. Jd dealer gave me replacement belt and I bought a spare. They don't seem to know the problem.
The pulleys ar in alignment. Don't see any obstructions.. I am on my third belt$$$$
Pulleys the problem???
Any evaluations here of this problem?
Thx in advance.
Oh, the belt is a ribbed belt on both sides. It is suppose to run cooler. Also makes a whirrrring sound.

Sounds like the JD dealer isn't very bright, or don't want to wyrk on your mower.
The reason a belt will turn over is, bad pulleys, misalignment, wrong belt,or mower deck is mounted catty-wompas on the tractor. If you can look under it when the mower is engaged, see what makes the belt sing, could be a misaligned belt guide.
Don't stick your hand under it when the deck is engaged.

We have a customer where I work that is having problems with the pto belt rolling over on his Deere. We are not a Deere dealer, but the dealer where the belts come from told us he has sold 75 of that particular belt this year.

My question would be are you sure your spindles and your idler pulleys have good bearings in them. When we check them, we take the belt off and spin them. If we can hear the bearings growl or rumble, the bearings are either dry or wearing out. Both conditions can shorten belt life.

Also look for warped pulleys and rust down in the V-groove. both of these things shorten belt life also.
