Cub Cadet 1882, Transmission Dipstick Problem

Hi,

I thought I posted this earlier today, but I don't see it, not sure where it went, so here goes again.

I think the transmission oil dipstick on my Cub Cadet 1882 is an incorrect length, possibly from a different tractor. Recently I drained the transmission oil, and filled it with the required amount of oil, but it never even registered on the dipstick.

On closer look, the dipstick doesn't even extend into the transmission case. The dipstick is about 11" long, as measured from the top of the cap, to the bottom of the stick.

Can someone, who has a model 1882, measure their stick and so I can have a something to go off. I am not sure what is going on here, but it must have been swapped with a stick from another model...

Thanks,

If you know you got the right amount of oil in it, just make a dipstick for it. Weld an extension on the one you got and make a file mark where the oil level is.

thynes:

The correct dipstick is [b:857af01803]703-1932[/b:857af01803]. Comparing it to a dipstick in a 782, it should be in the neighborhood of 11.50" long.

OK, so this morning armed with the part number, I had a look on eBay. There was a dipstick for sale.

I asked the seller to measure it, he replied with 13 1/4". Seems to be correct, so I bought it. I should see it in a few days and will update.

Thanks for the help guys.

So I received the new dipstick the other day. It was indeed longer than the one I had. Not sure why my tractor had the wrong stick, but now I get a correct oil level reading.

Never can tell what has been screwed up on an old machine that you don't know the history on...
