I was posted a question on Tool Talk about a 22 inch snow blower sold at Lowes. It has a LCT engine. Someone said it may be what's left over from Tecumseh. If it is, that's a big No for me. What do you think of the engine? I would feel better if it were a honda clone, not Tecumseh!!
Thanks George

See my comment on the tool talk. LCT predates Tecumseh shutting down and it's different people. Back about 2010 they (LCT)signed a deal with Lauson power products (Tecumseh, the folks that kept the A/C compressor business kept the Tecumseh name) to distribute LCT engine and parts, basically using the Tecumseh dealer network to support LCT engines.

So it's not a Tecumseh engine? Is the engine more like a honda clone? What about parts? Can I get them locally at the lawn mower parts place that handles MTD parts?

Just want to add:

1. We were told at Service School LCT did end up with the Tecumseh parts business for the old engines. There are more carburetors for the old stuff available now than there were for a while back 4-5 years ago.

2. The LCT engines are produced in the far East, and for engines produced there, usually they do not offer carburetor parts. If you have carburetor problems, you get a new carburetor.

Actually I looked some more, when they signed their agreement LCT went into production with some of the Tecumseh engines, especially the Sno Kings. If the engine looks something like a Honda or a Briggs & Stratton Intek it's a LCT engine and not associated with any Tecumseh design. I had one on a Cub Cadet Snow blower but didn't use it long enough to get any history on what they were really like.

Sorry didn't answer the other question, when LCT signed the deal with Lauson Power products (division of certified parts corporation) LCT engines and parts became available through Tecumseh/Lauson dealers, these dealer also assumed warranty responsibility.

Last spring I was looking to buy a lawn tractor (mower)and Sears and TSC both had one. The motor was listed as so many -cc's not horse power. I finally found an article on the puter about them. MTD contracted with a Chinese company to make Honda and BS -LOOK ALIKES- on the outside. Good luck finding parts cause none were interchangeable according to the article.

Thanks to all for your comments. I had my boy do research on engine and snow blower. 5 out of 6 bad reviews. He doesn't want it. I told him to find the blower he wants and get back to me.

The reviews on that said snowblower had nothing bad to say about engine but were a lot of problems with blower itself.
