cub cadet transmission question

I bought the remains of a Cub Cadet original with no engine.

I am thinking about re-powering it with an 8 hp. Briggs, powering off the pto end of the crankshaft.(Not the flywheel end, like the original engine)

I am thinking that I need to flip the ring gear in the transmission in order to get 3 speeds forward/1 reverse.

Does anyone know of this is possible? Has anyone on here ever done this?

If so, how do you remove the axles? Is there a e-clip or some such on the inboard ends of the axle?

the complete carrier assembly needs swaped to accomplish your goal..1-remove hitch and cover..2-remove "e" clips from axles, axles can be left in axle tubes..3-remove tubes from center housing,if standing behind the rt side has oil in it..4-remove bearing cups..5- remove carrier..to assemble the ring and pinion depth will be adjusted by the shims on the bearing cups, which will be found upon the teardown.there is also shims at the front of the pinion shaft, but the reduction housing must be removed to get to them..by doing this the r and pinion will be pulling together versus pushing apart,id advise no to hook it to anything stressfull on cement at over 1100 lb..
