Wheelhorse paint

I have a 1991 Wheelhorse/Toro 312 I bought new. The paint is starting to get bad on the deck. What color or part # is correct for this model? I would like to get a close match. The dealer is now out of business. Thanks

Try one or more local toro dealers they may be have or be able to get touch up paint for you,due to fact tractor was made after toro bought wheel horse paint may be standard toro red,in any case you may not get a perfect match due to tractor being 22 yrs old & paint is probably sun faded to some extent. Also try a google search for wheel horse paint & see what some of the other guys are useing on other websites.

Red Square is considered to be the #1 on-line forum for Wheel Horse products. According to some of the paint threads I have read there, the members often take a piece of their tractor that has not been exposed to sunlight to the paint store and have it analyzed by the computer.

If I remember correctly, no one has every come up with a single red paint that is perfect for all Wheel Horse tractors because apparently the factory used slightly different shades of red over the years.

Joe is 100 percent correct in saying that a perfect match is highly unlikely due to the rest of your tractor being exposed to UV rays. Red is one of the colours that is most prone to fading. If you can remove a bracket from the deck and find original paint on the underside of that bracket, then a computer can match that colour.

Then you can repaint the entire deck back to original but.....I suspect that it will look a lot different than the paint on the tractor itself. Perhaps the answer for YOU is to remove a piece of metal from the tractor that has been exposed to light all these years and have that paint matched by the computer.

If you aren't going to show this machine or otherwise get nailed by the correct police, IH 2150 is fairly close to Wheel Horse Red.

The "CORRECT POLICE" do not have arresting power, all they can do is froth at the mouth when people don't reach their expectations.
In udder words, don't worry, it don't amount to a hill of beans.

I agree with Steve. Several years ago I painted one end of a NOS steering rod with a Van Sickle International red rattle can and you couldn't tell which end was the original color when it dried. It was a perfect match, at least in that case.

Sorry for the late reply, was on Vacation for a week. Thanks for all the input. Yes, the rest of the Tractor is faded. It is kept inside when not used, but faded. Can decals still be found? Maybe a good winter project would be to repaint the whole thing. Thanks for the help.

One of my retired co-workers bought this tractor back in the 1960's. He bought his decals from
Mayhew. Hal
PS: He used Dupont's paint code 96766.

Wheel horse always from day one used IH Red was mixed locally by Obrien paints, the same company who mixed all the paint for Studebaker,Kizer, & AM General Military vehicles until the mid 80's
