Cub Cadet LT 1050

I bought about two months ago a used Cub Cadet I think the number is LT 1050 50" cut 23 hp kohler engine. The problem I am having is the battery will not charge on the mower, I can hook it to a battery charger to charge it but the mower will not keep it charged. ( New Battery ).It has a electric clutch for the mower deck and it stays engaged. The head lights always stay on. I can not find a switch to turn them off. Is there a reason they are always on? Being on all the time, may prevent the alternator from keeping up?

I think the light switch is a position on the ignition switch. You may have to check charging system of tractor it may not be putting out enough to keep battery charged.

See other poster about ignition switch and lights. There is a position on that switch that will have the motor running and the lights on. There should be a position with the engine running and the lights off. It should be a 4 position switch, (off, lights on-ignition on, lights off-ignition on, and starter engaged). Kohler engines are know for having charging problems. You can download the manual from Kohler for free. It will have a good section on how to diagnose your charging system.

The pto is controlled by a push-pull switch. it should have a yellow knob on it and I am thinking its on the right side of the steering wheel. If there is an open hole in the dash, look for it inside the console.

some of the cub cadet 1050 will come with to small of a batt 165 cranking amp batt i all ways put at least a 300 cc batt an solve the chargeing problem

As Vernon said the lights are always on on these models when the key is moved from the stop position to any run position. It is not difficult to wire in a separate switch for the lights or just take the bulbs out. I would look at testing/replacing the voltage regulator on the engine for the charging problem. It is a commonly replaced part.

On all the new cubs, there is no way to turn off the lights. I just took the bulbs out, and turned the sockets back in.

Can you mow the entire property or i should ask how long do you use it when mowing? Does the battery stay up the entire time,or does the pto eventually disengage on ya?
