A while back I purchased a Cub Cadet, apppears to be a 1995, model 1641. I see mention of a garden tractor and super garden tractor. Does it go by model number? What is the difference between the 2?

The marketing term "Super Garden Tractor" was first applied to the 982. It was the largest tractor of the series and offered a Cat 0 three-point hitch and 2000 RPM rear PTO.

The John Deere 400 series, Simplicity Sunstars, and other heavy garden tractors are all in the same class. Today that market is "subcompact utility".

SGT usually have 20 HP engines or more, longer frames, dual independent brakes, 26" rear wheels, sometimes a Rear PTO and a CAT 0 hitch.

The 1641 is a Garden Tractor.

Like others have said, [i:31b64c1f03]Super Garden Tractor [/i:31b64c1f03]was a marketing term.

If you want to use SGT as a 'class", then the 1971 Bolens 1886 was first in that class.

Big 18 horse Kohler twin, 26x12-12 rear tires, dual spool hydraulics, CAT 0 3-pt, and weighed around 1000 lbs.

I wouldn't put a Hp. limitation, as at the time a lot of 20 Hp engines were given a 'de-rated' rating of 19.5 so that they could bypass the Nebraska Test.

To my way of thinking they were just short of being a sub-compact. I think to be a sub-compact you would need the larger rear tires. and possibly a CAT 1 3-pt.

But, that's just an opinion.
