case 444 worth

i know this is a stupid question that i detest reading when posted but here i go. Guess i'll have to change my ways. I found a 444 that needs some work but the guy said it would run and he would make sure of that. No attachments exdcept for a belt driven generator off the pto. It has fairly good tires (hold air) that look like they would lastr a while. Paint is fair. Is this thing worth 800.00? I'm needing a bigger machine for my tiller and these are kind of rare in sw kansas.

Seems right on the edge of the high end to me.

But, if it has the rear hyd pto, 3pt lift, or sleeve hitch it will be worth that.

Of course, condition is everything! Once you start and drive it, you will likely have your own answer. Pay attention to looseness in controls and steering, smoke or noises from the engine etc.

As Ken noted, condition is everything. The downside to this deal is that it is just a basic tractor and with no mower deck those do not bring very much money.

It either runs right now or it does not run. Which is it? If it does not run at the moment, then it is nothing more than a parts tractor and is worth about $300.00 max. It is not YOUR responsibility to get it to run and you should not be expected to take his word that it will run with some work.

The generator is not an OEM attachment. Therefore I would not place much value on it. That is an attachment you may NEVER have need of and may have difficulty in finding a buyer for it.

Based upon your description, $800.00 is far too much money UNLESS.... as Ken noted..... there is a 3 point hitch and rear hydraulic PTO kit mounted to the tractor. But if neither of those are present, then I would give this one a pass.

By the way, in order to attach a self-powered tiller to the back of a Case tractor, you will need at least a Sleeve Hitch and those usually bring around $200.00 on e-Bay as a separate item. A used 3 point hitch on e-Bay would fetch $450.00 or more.

Much less experience here than Tom or Ken but in our neck of the woods that machine would be over priced. As they said attachments is where the money is, basic tractor is not worth a whole lot especially in "needing work" condition. Would be lucky to see $150-200 if sold at auction in this area.
