I had a buddy ask me about a 140 with a fresh overhaul but it runs bad. He has been told it is a balance/timing problem. Can anyone give me a clue what to look for? (I have not seen the mower yet)

Do people ask a vague question just to see what kind of response they will git?
It seems that if they really want to know something they would go to more detail.
What do others say about the vagueness?

That is a good question Harvey. I guess some people think that this is a game show where the regulars get to guess what the OP is talking about.

504 should try reading his own question and then ask himself whether he might have phrased it differently.

And then there are those who ask a question and NEVER return to their thread to at least thank the people who gave up their valuable time to try and help them.

There is no shortage of ignorance and stupidity in this world along with plain old bad manners. .

Well spoken Mr. Arnold,
Its been said that it is OK to be goofy but not stupid.
There is no excuse for bad manners.

Yes" I assumed it to be a John Deere 140, but a lot of folks don't know different garden tractors.

With your handle 504, one would believe your an IH guy which would make it a IH 140 tractor but from the section your posting in I would think a JD 140.

In that case, if the engine has been apart and the cam is out of time. It could very well be as simple as the carburetor needing cleaned. Maybe the coil is bad too. We need more/better information to really help you better.

No problem 504.

Remember..... it was YOU who came here looking for people to help YOU, not the other way around.

The answers you get are only as good as the information that you provide in your question. I suppose that i should not be surprised in the slightest that you are unable to recognize just how ridiculous your question actually was and failed to apologize for your obvious error in framing the question as you did.

You got as good as you gave.

This is why I gave up on an RV site. People asking for help but not telling you what they have. Questions like. My Onan will not start. What is wrong with it. Doesn"t give you much to guess at.

during the rebuild the two balancer gears could have been installed out of time causing a balancer issue. If it is old enough to have the solid state ignition that could also be the problem. Carb issues are the easiest, does it change if you pull the choke??

I couldn't agree more.

Some people think you have a Crystal Ball, or being a "mind reader".

Hesston, perhaps???

I have one, but this is NOT a phto of mine.)

Well I see the elite have all weighted in on the lack of information on this question. Last month you guys made fun of Ellwood 85 for the same reason. Wouldn t it be better to just ask for more information without the putdowns. Does it make your day when you belittle someone who may post a question and not include enough information ?This is a good way to chase people from the site. Is this your intent.

Mr. 504,
Looks like "YOU" have an attitude problem.
The people on this forum will bend over backwards to help others that have a need.
Most of them are not mind readers. Your arrogance will not get you very far.
