444 Case manuals ???

The Case 444 began production in 1969 and ended as of the 1988 model year. Over that twenty-year span, changes were made to how the tractor was built.

That resulted in Case and then Ingersoll, releasing around seven different Parts Manuals that reflected those changes. Parts Manuals and Operator Manuals are divided by a specific range of serial numbers (aka PIN). There are about ten different Op Manuals that i am aware of.

As for Service Manuals, Case is unique in how they handled that issue. There are two lines of garden tractors issued by Case and then Ingersoll.

The first is known as the Lo Profile Series and the second one is known as the High Wheel Series. Each of the Series are then divided by engine HP. Case used 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 HP engines and the last digit in the model number reflected the HP rating. IE: a 220 has 10 HP and a 446 has 16 HP.

Because all models essentially shared the same components, Case issued a Service Bulletin that covers the Trans-Axles. A separate Service Bulletin covers the Steering/Front Axle. Another Service Bulletin covers engines with Starter/Generators while a different one deals with engines that have Starters and Alternators.

Over the years, all of the above manuals have undergone reprinting. Some are no longer available from Eastman/Ingersoll in their original form but are simply photocopies. Used manuals do show up on e-Bay for sale and there are also e-Bay Sellers who offer photocopies of original manuals.

Perhaps if you disclosed WHY your friend is seeking these manuals I might be able to help further.

not a friend , don't even know him , he called me with the request and thought I'd help him out. I gave him this site address so with all those variables in manuals/models I guess he is on his own from here. Thanks for your informative response. RB

Tom is the man when it comes to Colt/Case/Ingersoll knowledge! I would say he has forgot more than most will ever learn, but I don't think he has forgotten any!
