Case G/L Brake Lever

Hi
Just Wondering what the square hole
is for on the brake lever lock?
I may have to fabricat one for my 220
half of the lever broken and missing
right at the square hole.
thanks
Chris

I am not aware of the hole you mention.

The Case garden tractors have a foot actuated parking brake with the pedal on the left side of the tractor. There is a sawtooth metal strip that protrudes through a slot in the lower left side of the dash tower. When you step on the brake pedal, the sawtooth strip moves away from the Operator and in order to lock the Parking Brake, the Operator must push down on the sawtooth strip and release the brake pedal.

These tractors were made from 1969 to 1988 and many changes happened. it may well be that there is a square hole in the brake lock lever on your tractor and if so, then I suspect that one end of the brake lock spring goes through it.

Check inside the dash tower and see if there is stretch spring flopping around. There are two such springs in that area. The 2nd one makes the brake pedal return to the fully UP position.

I can probably put you in touch with someone that can sell you one.

thanks Tom
the brake lever is a discontinued part
i checked the springs are all in place
this 220 is a 1978 model and has a easy access
plate down there for visual and easier repair.

It appears that the part you are seeking is C 18147 and it does have the square hole in it. I see nothing in the parts manual that indicates why this hole is needed.

I will make some inquiries to see if someone has this part but if you wish to make one, then please say so.

I am more interested in finding the origanal part
seems to always fit better.
the square hole makes it the weakes point
thats were it broke in two.

The ORIGINAL part has the square hole. The parts manual for your tractor shows that part with the square hole.

No problem. If Dave is unable to find a suitable match, you could contact Brian Hildreth of Salem Power in Michigan. Brian is an Ingersoll dealer and he located a New Old Stock lever that will cost you $21.22 plus shipping.

It is quite common for these levers to get bent and then broken off, mostly due to the ignorance of past owners that fail to keep the parking brake properly adjusted.
