I have a 1979 wheelhorse c-141 tractor and it will move forward at a very slow speed, and won't move in reverse at all. The drive belt is ok. Going to drain oil out of tran and change it and filter. Is their anything else I should check out. Thanks for your help :( :(

As Steve said check that push/freewheel valve on trans in correct position, after that check set screws/shaft keys on BOTH rear wheel hubs.

A common problem on wheel horse tractors is set screw for shaft key on wheel hub will loosen, with time/use this tears up keyway in cast iron hub & shaft key allowing hub to move on axle & key will shear/fall out & set screw will score axle/damage keyway on axle & allow axle to spin in hub, both keys must be present/intact & set screws tight for transaxle to operate correctly,if keyway in hub damaged/worn replace hub as same thing will happen again in a short time,I've replaced hubs on three of my wh tractors over the yrs due to set screw getting loose & damaging keyway in hub. Also check that shaft key for hydro pump pulley not sheared/missing.

If shaft keys present/intact & hubs not damaged change oil/filter,if that doesn't cure problem then goto website below & enter mod#/sn of tractor, service manual for sundstrand trans a free download, follow troubleshooting flow chart, may help you find problem.

The yoke on my Wards tractor hydraulic cylinder would unscrew itself, so I coated the threads with Loctite. So far it hasn't came loose. Hal

I had a later model 312-H doing that and found that debris had wedged behind/below the brake pedal linkage and would not let it fully release.

The brake pedal was tied to a device that forces the hydro back to neutral when the brake is applied and because it would not release fully, the device limited travel of the direction control on the pump and thus, it only moved slowly.
