Back working on this motor on a Cub Cadet. Took the top off carb, removed the one jet I could. It has a small hole through it near the top and smaller one near bottom. Lower end of jet below bottom set of holes, is plugged, is this correct? Float sits about 1/2 inch below top of bowl. It seems to be good though. What should the measurement be? It has an electric solenoid on right rear of carb. I can hear it click when I turn key on but don't see the plunger move inside carb. Is this correct? I would really like to find a manuel for this engine but I can't seem to find anything on line. Does anyone have a source? I know lots of questions, just trying to get this up and running and not familiar with engine. thanks for any help

Call B&S to see if they have a manual. You will need the model number and any other numbers off the fan shroud. Hal
PS: In addition to the model number you will the Type and Code numbers.

thanks for the phone number, will try it. I like to have as much info on the equipment I own as possible. Still trying to find manual for the Cub Cadet, numbers on it don't seem to fit with ones listed on their site.

removed old yellow stale gas from tank and also in carb. replaced with new gas. Float level came up to where it is about the top of the fuel bowl. Seem to be getting gas to plugs now as they are damp.Have some spark at plugs but not sure it is enough.compression on each side about 50 pounds, does this motor have a compression release?

First thing to do as Hal said is call briggs Tue and order a service/repair manual for your eng OR check at local mower shop, briggs website or ebay & BUY service manual pn 272144 as according to partstree you're eng a mod#303447 which is a vanguard V twin,in manual it will tell you all you need to know as to repairing/maintaining eng,in addition the vanguard used 2 different style carbs which are covered in manual.

The reason you can't find info on tractor online is because most websites are for IH cub cadet tractors, your tractor was built by MTD,click on link below,in cub cadet lawn/garden tractor listings you'll find your tractor mod# listed along with assembly drawings/parts list for tractor.

Do a google search for mtd web archive, click on link to website, enter tractor mod# & use zero for sn,owners manual avail as a free download.

Just remember that the Briggs twins have Nikke carbs on them. When they are working correctly they are fantastic! When they are messed up you want to blow the son of a ^$%$^&$ up with a real big bomb! The carb kit for a twin Nikke is around 48.oo bucks so if you need help with it just ask me. I have rebuilt a couple and when done they are SWEEEEET!

I don't want to cause problems, but I would sure help if you gave us the model number of that engine, so we could tell about what carburetor you have.

located the site you mentioned, got manual and they also have lots of tech manuals you can look at, found briggs book on Ebay after you gave me the number. Thanks for everyone's help
