John Deere 285 Mower Deck PTO problems

I am helping out with a 1988 John Deere 285 mower deck PTO problem. The PTO pulley continues to turn even when the power switch turned off. It is like the switch is always on and there is no room to adjust the gap. I took the PTO off and looks like everything is there with nothing missing, also with the PTO off the tractor but plugged in; the electromagnet works with the on and off switch as it should when tested. It is almost like when you put it all together that the bolt that holds it in place is squeezing it together too much. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Jack

It looks like it uses 2 different clutches. Are you saying it works when removed from the engine but locks up when you tighten the crankshaft bolt?

Yes it works fine off the tractor, but when it is installed after tightening up the crankshaft bolt it does not work. It is the Oqura brand. Thank you for responding rrobert.

Is the bearing locking up?

Most likely culprit is a bad bearing. I have a good used clutch if needed.
