Yes go to any lawn mower service shop they will have keys they are all pretty much generic.

Most cub cadets used the same key as the 06 56 66 and 86 series farm tractors if you can find a neighbor with one of these tractors maybe they would let you copy the key

A while back I smacked my knee against the key on my Cub Cadet 100 and broke it off. I was able to dig the piece out with a pick but still didn't have a key. I took a spare from my 1961 Scout and even though it had a completely different cut the profile was the same and it went right in and worked. I make the assumption from this that the tractor switches aren't too choosy about what cut the key has as long has the correct profile to fit into the switch.

I am thinking the key he needs is not either the Indak or MTD key that you are familiar with. It is notched like a regular car key. A John Deere mower key is similar, I don't know if it will work or not.

Any cut key from an IH tractor(400through 5088 I know for sure) or a cut key from most JD gas mowers will fit. Steiner has them listed, YT may have them, I never looked before.

I bought a new used switch & key off of Flea Bay for my Cub Cadet 70, changed the switch then found out both switches used the same key. Later found out the key from the Wheel Horse 525 also works. Key from my Cub Cadet 102 would of worked if I hadn't changed it to a generic NAPA ignition switch 16 years ago. I'm thinking it you go to a power equipment dealer or locksmith they can set you up.
