engine swap wiring

I have a Sears model 917.272350 rider, the 15.5 OHV engine blew. I installed a 12.5 I/C gold engine about the same vintage, both are Briggs and the 12.5 bolted right up. Wiring is the problem. The 12.5 has a 2 pin connector and a single 1 pin connector, the 2 pin has a red and a black wire, the one pin connector has a black wire. The mower has a 6 hole connector although all are not used, wires to connector are blue, black and orange, a red jumper wire goes from the blue wire to a pin opposit the orange wire in the connector. I need help figuring out which wires to use on the mower to the engine.
Thanks for any advice,
Bob S.

If this unit has an electric clutch, the stator on the replacement engine won"t make enough power to keep it working.

The plug with the red and black wires is probably coming from the stator. You will have to remove the top cover over the flywheel to verify this. Those wires should go up under the flywheel. I am thinking the red wire is the DC charging wire for the battery. It is unregulated, probably about 4 amps max. I am thinking the black wire is AC that was originally used for headlights.

The black wire by itself is probably the ignition kill wire and will go the ignition coil/module.

You need to remove the cover on the blown engine and determine what color wires do what there. If its new enough to use the 6 pin plug, the blown engine probably had a fuel solenoid on the carburetor too. You can probably swap the entire wiring harness onto the replacment engine-stator and all. You can still use the harness if it has a wire to the fuel solenoid, just make sure to insulate the fuel solenoid wire so it can"t short out and cause problems.Just keep track of which wires went where so you will hook them up correctly.

The only other thing that may cause problems is some of the low amp charging systems Briggs used also used smaller magnets in the flywheel.
