I have a coleman powermatemaxa 5ooo er gen. engine 10hp Tecumseh model hm100 159272m dom 5 27 6 a this generator set up fo about 3 .5 years .I taken tank of clean wash it out and dryed replace on of valve new fuel lines filter new carb new plug clean coil and flywheel .it will crank up run fine it has clear filter when the fuel gets to half or less it start poping mishing then dies they wantbe mutch fuel in line .the only it willstart again is to take fuelline lose from carb hold line down fuel will fill line back up hook back carb it will crank up run fine .I have run with out fuel cap no change need help from you guys thanks
 
If that generator has a big tank on the frame above the engine, take the shutoff out and look at it, it sounds like the screen in the tank is partially stopped up. It is easier to tell if it is glazed over if you let the gas dry off it.

If the tank is a small one on the side of the engine, I think it has a mesh filter inside the tank over the outlet. You can push a wire up the outlet and make a hole in it, then put an inline filter on the line to the carburetor.
 
Had one of these for ten years till I sold it. You will notice that it has a "generator" carb on it.
these are set up to only run WIDE open and have no throttle range. You may want to fleabay and get a NOS replacement carb. The ones for a rototiller come to mind. They have a full range and are totally adjustable. Also run you genset on Hi-test gas with a little Star-tron in it. Set the main jet to run smooth with a small electrical load on it. Hi -test versues regular will really suprise you how the machine will run!
