jd214 starts hard runs for a few seconds then dies. i replaced points and condensor set at .020 and cleaned carb. checked coil primary 3.7 ohms, secondary 5.81k ohms. fuel pump has good flow. it is slowly driving me nuts. help!

Going to have to catch it in the act...

Be ready to check the spark as soon as it fails.
If it's loosing spark, check for primary voltage
at the coil, points setting, wiring, etc. Assuming
the plug has been changed, it can do strange
things!

Does choking help, or make it worse? Be ready to
give the carb a shot of gas, see if it will run
when primed. Any black smoke? Indication of
flooding.

Long shot, sticking valve.

I agree with steve on long shot on valve(s)given age of eng when the K series eng start getting tired valve(s) tend to stick due to carbon buildup on valve stems or worn valve guides in addition many eng develop a head gasket leak in area of exh valve, you can sometimes pickup on this by oil on head/block in area of leak,in either case eng hard starting & you have to all but flood eng to start, then when excess gas burns off/blows out of eng fuel mixture goes lean & eng dies as it gets hot.
