My Onan B48M twin 18 hp got loaded with gas....as in
LOADED to the top. I've done the obvious like drain the oil,
change the filter, take the plugs out and turn it over by
hand to squirt the gas out....my question: Do I need to do
anything else? I'm thinking change oil and run a LITTLE,
then change oil and filter again....to get diluted oil out if
there was any gas left in there somewhere. Overkill or
what? Close to 3,000 hrs on that Onan and hate to ruin it
now, oil is cheaper than an engine....

If the source of the gas contamination has been repaired, and you're sure no new gas is getting in, then any residual gas in the oil would quickly evaporate once the oil is up to temperature. The crankcase vent will draw off the vapor.

Thanks Steve, guess I'm a worry wart. My dad always said "oil is cheaper than an engine" but I didn't think about the vent sucking the vapor out....Thanks again.

I agree with Steve. Drain the oil change the filter. What little gas is left will burn off. I have done the same many times. No problem.

Thanks guys, I took care of the carb problem and it ran like a champ today. In 34 years it never loaded with gas like that, it's not like it's gravity fed...i'll just turn off the gas from now on.

I bought a new Agco that had the gas cap sticking up through the hood. The mower was brand new just unloaded it off the trailer and parked it.
My wife decided to mow the next day, and opened the hood unscrewed the cap, and dumped 5 gal. of gas in the crankcase. At least she did not start it!
New oil and filter and traded it off three years later(I was mowing 200 hours a year then)
