Hi, not sure where to post, I"ll try here. Anyway my wife"s favorite mower is giving me fits, started with the deck stopping, replaced switch. worked for a while, now same chit, deck quit working, drove up to shop, motor running turned deck on with motor running and motor stops, blown fuse. New fuse, motor starts and runs, turn deck on everything stops, blown fuse. I think it"s the electric clutch. How do get the clutch off, pull the motor?? Anything else to check? Thanks in advance! Dan

Not sure of your particular model, but most are serviceable from underneath, shouldn't need to pull the motor, but could be wrong.

There is a short somewhere in the clutch circuit. If you can access the clutch, look the wiring over for damage. The harness could have gotten pinched or rubbed through on a moving part.

If all looks well, locate the plastic connector plug in the harness where it plugs into the clutch. Unplug it and try a new fuse. Start it up and turn on the PTO switch. If the fuse still blows, the problem is in the wiring. If the fuse doesn't blow, revisit the clutch.

The short could be in the wire lead going into the clutch, or the magnet coil itself is shorted.

There is a short brace that prevents the magnet part of the clutch from rotating. Be sure it's properly in place. If it rotates, it will damage the wiring.

There is a bolt in the center bottom of the clutch that holds the assembly on the crankshaft.

Steve, Thanks for the reply! A quick check, got more fuses and replaced fuse, started mower (so far so good) disconnected the clutch wire at the plug and I have 12 volts at the plug, so the clutch is maybe the problem, I'll have to jack it up to get under there to check the wires at the clutch. Thanks for the ideas. Will let you know of results. Dan

Steve, I tried sending a e-mail, don't know if it went through, send me one, have a few questions, OK! Thanks ,Dan
