Hi I have a Sears Suburban SS16 with an Onan (BF MS2379C) engine I'd like to know if its possible to install an intake manifold and Nikki carb from a 20 hp engine on the 16.

Now...I do not know a whole lot about Onan engines but many things cross over. Is this a twin cylinder? Now with that big number to smaller number of horse power you may have smaller main jets in your carb. Nikke carbs have NO adjustments and work very well when they are working correctly. I have rebuilt several. They are not cheap to rebuild! You may run a little richer but not much. The carb will balance itself out to a point. Give it a shot and let us know! If you get the carb with the plate on top that sort of looks like a couple of triangles, it is the best one. Also look to see if you have a gap between the carb and the manifold. Some RTV will fix it. Jeffcat

On the next model the P seriees I have done it. Just had to turn in the main jet. P series all used the same basic block. On the BF series I would think it would.
I think you will have to do some measuring. Never have seem part measurements in a downloadable manual or printed manual.
Last time I saw part measurements was for an old Caterpillar 30 dozer I had. It was made in the 1930s.

Thanks, I found that there is an adapter to mount the Nikki carb on the manifold and yes the Nikki has a fixed main jet but maybe a smaller one could be found, have not looked in to that. Yes Nikki parts maybe high but they can't be any higher than MS parts.

If you look around on line you will find explosions of Nikki carbs. They all list the main jet as part 117. Others show 117a and 117b. Same thing and you can purchase direct from Briggs. Those little jets if bad will make your engine sound as if is it constipated and trying to go. There is an itsy bitsy teany tiny little "O" ring around it. They get brittle "leak" and cannot be replaced. You need to buy new jets at about $6.oo each and the carb kit at $46.oo. When you rebuilt them they work slick as can be! I have two Huqvarna machines with twin Briggs engines and Nikki carbs. They are such nice smoooooth running machines!

Thanks jeffcat for the information, now I have another question, my Onan has a MS DD11 carb what is the difference between a DD11 and a DD13 carb, I know that the DD13 was used on Case 446 tractors, I am wondering if I can use the DD 13 on my engine which has 3 less CID. Thanks
