Country Clipper 120

I recently bought a Country Clipper model 120 Zero Turn mower. This thing is from 1986 or so. Country Clipper also made the very early snapper zero turns that look identical. They have headlights on the front panel.

It runs and mows fine, but needs attention paid to the deck this winter. I was actually thinking of making a new deck for it. Anyone eve done this? Or I was thinking of looking for a new deck. Not sure yet.

Never built a deck from scratch, but I've cut out bad, stress cracked, poorly designed sections and welded in new plate. Also made heavier spindles out of steel with larger shaft, bearings, and made them greaseable. Depends on what resources you have access to.

I was looking at some of these home made deck and looking at repairing this one. Looks like someone just covered over bad spots on this one with new metal, poorly welded. I think the answer for me is to just take all that bad metal out and weld in new leaving a smooth finish on the inside and outside of the deck. That way I won't need to screw with spacing the spindles and such.

Look at the heavy decks from Husqvarna. They are "Fabricated" and are like twice as heavy. American Lawn Products. Also look at the old Case or Ingersol Rand mowers. All of the machines I have looked at have these decks. If you have the time and tools they do not look that hard to make.
