guy has this for sale and I don"t really know much about it I know mtd made some mowers for cub..is this one of them?..it has a 22 hp kohler and power steering with a 60 in deck..not running due to electrical problems..is it worth buying or should I stay away..pics look good and I know the guy so hes not lying..just on the fence about it

It is a Cub Cadet 2284. They were built from 1995-1997. It had a 22HP Kohler Command engine it.

Cub Cadets were original designed and produced by International Harvester (IH). That reign went from 1960-1981. In mid 1981, the Cub Cadet division of IH was sold off to MTD to a division called Cub Cadet Corp (CCC). MTD has owned Cub Cadet ever since.

I am more of the CC traditionalist and only focus on the IH built CC's. I don't have much knowledge on the newer (1990>) Cubs.
 
thanks for the info I like the older ones better also and was unaware that mtd took over in "81

The only MTD built Cub Cadets that I would consider are the 1981 through 1989 years. During those years, CCC used the IH design. In 1990 & newer, everything changed.
 
From the ID No,I'd hafta say its and MTD built Cub,basically a sister to the 700series MTDs.A mid grade Lawn mowing tractor on par with MTD Bolens',MTD Troy-bilt etc.Regardless of the "color of clothes"a 700series wears it is a slightly "upgraded" version of the commonest MTD worldwide,the 600 series and a LT(Lawn Tractor)with possibly a bit more capability as to deck size,blower capabilty and such,but still a LT,not a Garden tractor(800-900 series)/my thoughts
