My Maternal Grand Father bought a Bolen's Suburban 26 new in 1966-67. HE passed away while I was in the service and the mower sold to parts unknown. I have been looking for one for several years.

Do any of you know of one for sale???

I have one of these that I would sell for $125.00. It's rough, but complete and not stuck. I can take pics if interested.

These are not throwaway models at all!!!!

Have you driven or used one of these before? I assume not as if you did you would see how well made these were.

They made a bunch of these and there are still quite a few around, keep looking and one will surface eventually.

I'm not saying that they were poorly built.

They were just meant to do what the entry level lawn tractors of today are meant to do. Mowing and light towing.

As for pricing, the DEALER cost for the 1968 Suburban 26 was $285.00.

Running that through an inflation calculator, that translates into $1,948.02 in todays dollars, which is pretty much what a good entry level mower costs today.

The Bolens 1455 a true Garden Tractor, was $1,215.00 when equipped with the "Standard Lawn and Garden tread" rear tire option. That translates onto $8,305.99 in todays dollars.

I'm heavy into the Bolens tractors from the mid 60's to late 80's, and active on a couple of forums.

Those riders do occasionally show up, but they are pretty rare these days.

You have to remember that those were the "Throw away Home Depot/Lowes/TSC mowers" of their day, so not many of them have survived.

"You have to remember that those were the "Throw away Home Depot/Lowes/TSC mowers" of their day, so not many of them have survived."

I have to disagree!

Those riders were well built and pretty reliable. ...We sold them from our dealership.

They were intended for smaller suburban lawns and were limited to mowing and pulling a small cart. ...People that needed snow removal, a tiller, or had a large lawn would opt for a tractor instead.

Even if the mower lasted for 20-30 years of use (doubtful), mowers were not considered collectible, or worth the expense to restore them, so most were scrapped many years ago.

Don"t forget - 1967 was 47 years ago!
