John Deere 318 steering cylinder

I have a John Deere 318 that the power steering cylinder is leaking quite a bit. Has anyone opened one up(welded on both ends) and replaced the seal and rewelded it?

Not that particular cylinder, but I have done it on others. You need a lathe to get it cut straight and generally loose about 1/8" of stroke. Only cut one end. I take it to a weld shop and have it TIG welded, less heat on the new seals.
