Could anyone shed some light on the value of a well cared for Ingersoll 4014 hydrive garden tractor with a 48 inch mower deck and 500 hrs on hourmeter. Some rust present. Could I expect more years of service on a Christmas Tree farm for mowing purposes if service regularly maintained?

I have been waiting for this........ LOL,,,Tom, the 4014 was only made one year... it only came with the Kohler M series... I have a 1989 model and love it to death!! It has 778 hrs on it. I agree with the $1200- $1500 price tag at the MOST.. Great tractors, easy to work on

Dave, I haven't been waiting to do this... ROFLMAO....

Actually my friend.... the 4014 was made for two years, not one. 1989 AND 1990. And you are probably correct that they used the Kohler M engine both years.

However, the 3014 was also made for a number of years and those were sold initially with the Kohler M and then with a Vanguard. I have one with the Vanguard and here is another one.

As a side note, I think that we can chalk up the loss of the venerable 444 model, which later became the 4014... to the EPA requirements that also saw the demise of the Onan twin in these tractors.

It's OK Dave... I appreciated you input on the topic anyway. You were correct regarding the engine issue being limited to just the Kohler for the 4014. We all contribute in our own way. LOL And that is what it is all about. Cheers my friend.

Hi, with 500 hours and well taken care of you shouldn't have any worries for many more hours. The big ticket item is the Oman. When they go bad there is no low buck solution. Repaired (properly) or replaced with kit your in for $1500 plus.

As for value pay close attention to what Tom said "depends on where you are from" The tractors have a cult following in very regionalized areas and in other places they are a curiosity but that is about it and a tough sell. Tom's price of $1200 is good where they have a following (from what I read)or if there is some desirable attachment or accessory such as 3-point, power steering, rear PTO to name a few. Around here they are a VERY tough sell. How tough? we have purchased models 4018, 4016PS and 4116 all hydraulic, all running, all in good shape with decks and one blade and have spent just over 1K at auctions.

If you owned a 4016, 4018 or 4020 etc, then Butch's concern over the cost of rebuilding the engine would be spot on. But you own a 4014 and those models used either Kohler M Series engines or Vanguard Twin engines.

The biggest impediment to getting a fair price for any Case or Ingersoll tractor is public ignorance of just how good these tractors really are. There are plenty of old Case models out there that are still cutting grass, blowing/plowing snow and working in the garden every year even though they are well past 30 years of age.

My advice is to stick with what you have because you know the history and it has been properly cared for.

Opps, see what happens when I play expert? Sorry.

Ignorant is right term concerning the these tractors Tom. I was one one them, until recently but have been enlightened. Luckily there are few others in our area so we have gone from none to three in just a few months without spending much money. Now we will move on to attachments for them and begin to spend money,,,.

As most people know, ignorance is not the same as stupidity. Stupidity is when someone says that they would not buy a Case or Ingersoll tractor because they never heard of one...therefore they must be no good.

Ignorance is easily overcome just by spending some seat time on a properly maintained Case or Ingersoll GT while performing various tasks around your property. The more you use it, the more you come to appreciate it.

Currently, that ignorance serves those of us who are familiar with the breed because it helps keep the prices of attachments and tractors down well below true market value.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your triplets.

Five hundred hours is what most people consider "Low Hours" on any Case or Ingersoll GT. It as you say, it has been well-cared for, then the engine should not need to be rebuilt until some time after there are 2000 hours on the clock.

If you own this tractor, then just keep it. The replacement value is more than eight grand today for a new one. About all you will get for the 4014 is around $1200.00 but that figure will vary depending upon where you live.
