BS 23 F BC Update coil Q

Still trying to get a spark.
Took off mag and shaft magnet and cleaned all.
Checked timing. Magnet pull seems strong.
Replaced wire from points to coil.
Checked points with meter.
Everything seems to be good but no spark.
I checked coils resistance - primary is 0.5 ohms, secondary is 9.6k ohms.
I'm thinking the secondary sounds a bit low?
Is this possibly my problem?

I have NO info as to what the coil winding resistances should be, but even KNOWING the expected value and having the winding measure close to that number does NOT guarantee a HOT spark, as even one shorted "turn" in the winding (while not affecting the resistance measurement appreciably) converts potential spark energy to heat in the coil (at the expense of SPARK).

The only REAL way to test a coil is with a "ringing test", which is essentially what the famed "Merctronic" tester that many outboard motor or OPE shops use does.

After checking my microfiche cards for type# of eng,the base pn for coil in most F series eng is the same pn coil you have, however in sub listing for coil there are 3 other pn coils listed along with eng type#,your type# not listed in sub listings & it appears you have correct pn coil, this is why it's important to post type# along with mod# of eng,if you suspect a problem with new coil as bob said take same along with core & try several local mower shops to see if they have a coil tester they can check coil in.

A couple of other things you might want to check that may be cause of problem, push pin (plunger)for points worn/broken,bushing for push pin dirty/worn & pin sticking in same, eccentric on cam for pin worn/grooved.

Do a google search for shaw tractor manual & click on link to shawsters-shaw du-all tractor club you may be able to pickup more info there also I'm guessing this is a 4 wheel tractor & a T25 or similar mod# as shaw also made 2 wheel walk behinds, you might also try doing a goggle search for shaw+mod# and see if anything comes up in the way of links.Looking at pic of pulley mounted on crankshaft in front of flywheel brings to mind tractor was designed to be used as a stationary eng for water pump, generator, sawmill or other attachment to be used in field.
