Techumse just old or what?

Motor has new (1 yr old) carb. Now carb is leaking
gas. So bad that half a tank gone since last night.
Hasn't been run more than 20 min since last fall.
Any ideas?

If it has a shutoff valve at the tank I would keep it closed when not in use. The valve seat may be causing the leak or the float if it has gas in it. Hal

Check for gas in the crankcase. I've got a Briggs
12HP, on a Snapper, that leaks down, like that.
It was easier to just put a shut off valve in
the fuel line.

I've fought with every Tec engine I have ever had until I replaced them. They idled great but ran bad at full speed, they ran at full speed but wouldn't idle, etc.

Never met one I liked. It is like someone put the wrong carb on when it was built or something.

Hi BAnNC, if the carb is new there are a couple of things to check it mught be as simple as something got in the needle seat and its not sealing had this happen on one of my carb a piece of the gas hose came loose and got under the seat, second it could be the seat its self has gone bad if its and after market carb it most likely made in China and maybe the seat didn't like ethanol?
I have at least 7 Tecumseh powered tractors and mowers all run great much better than the low down Onan that will not run right but I'm working on it maybe in a month or so it will come around and run as good as the Tecumseh's I have.

Several good suggestions here, as already stated, likely the needle seat bad because of ethanol, or s small piece of trash under the needle. But, BY ALL MEANS make sure the crankcase is not over full, and it likely is. If so you will need to change the oil, or you will be shopping for a new engine!

If it hasn't run but 20 min. since last fall the cause of your problem is old gas, not a defective 'new' carburetor. The ethanol in must gas you buy attacks the rubber on the needle valve in the carburetor. After that, It doesn't seal and the carburetor leaks gas.

In a lot of cases, The engine will run fine except it leaks while sitting.

If the engine has a fuel shutoff, use it. If it has none, they can be fitted to most tecumsehs and they only cost $6-8.

If there is gas in the crankcase, don't run it until you change the oil. One indicator of gasoline in the oil is if the oil level is over the full mark on the dipstick.
