Primer on a small Briggs motor

I have a 2 year old push type sting trimmer with a primer button. This year it wouldn’t start, took carb apart didn’t find any issues. But with the air filter off I can’t see that the primer doesn't push any gas into the carb. Sprayed a bit of gas in the throat and it started right up. Have any of you had an issue with these primers? How did you fix it? Just buy a new air filter base? Thanks,Mike.

Replace the primer. Usually they come as a unit. Make and model would help, but they don't last anymore.

Is yours the engine with the primer in the air filter box? If so, and if the primer bulb is in good condition, probably there is an air leak between the filter box and the carburetor.

I sometimes have to put 2 gaskets between the carb. and the filter box to get the passage to seal. I blame it on the plastic warping.
