JD 210 Brakes

Howdy All!

I recently acquired a 1978 JD 210 and noticed that the brakes work OK but should the brakes hold the tractor in place when they are set to Park and I try to drive off? The other day I started to drive off and realized I had the parking brake set. The tractor did not seem to be affected to drive with the parking brake set. I adjusted the brakes a bit tighter but not much. If I adjusted them to tight then I could not set the parking brake. I crawled under the tractor and noticed that the brake band was only riding on 1/2 of the brake drum. I would pump the brake pedal and it would more or less center itself on the brake drum. Any suggestions?

As always Thanks in Advance!

The procedure is to let the parking brake latch down from the rest into the slot, and then push the pedal. It should work like a ratchet and tighten the brake band more the farther you push the pedal down. It should hold the tractor with the transaxle in neutral on a moderate hill.
