John Deere LX 188

I've been fighting this mower all spring. It's a 2 cylinder water cooled Kawasaki. The starter wouldn't stay engaged until it would start, so I took it off and the maintenance man at work rebuilt it for me, Starter works good now. Crank it over and it would start and die. I took the carb off and cleaned it out real good, put it back together and it started right up and ran great. I started mowing, ran about 20 minutes and died, totally dead, no dash light, no crank, nothing. Found a blown fuse on the starter switch, replaced fuse and it blew right away. I got more fuses, unplugged the wires to the regulator and ignition module( Deere calls in an ignitor). Replaced fuse and plugged in regulator, fuse OK, so I plugged in the ignitor, fuse still good, dash lights and cranks over, no start. I took the regulator and ignitor to work and had them checked. Regulator was bad and they didn't have a way to check ignitor. Bot a new regulator and put it on. Still no fire. I unplugged the 2 wires to each coil and cranked it over and they don't have any power with my tester. Is there a way to make sure the ignitor is bad before replacing it? Deere wants $275 for the ignitor, I'll have to find somewhere cheaper to get one. I guess I would buy one if I knew for sure that was the problem. Any help out there?? Thanks, Chris

What heading do you use on e-bay to find them, I looked and didn't see any. Chris
