Simplicity 60 deck belt ordered....wrong belt sent

As my title indicates.... and it was supposed to be a double v belt. I went on ebay & typed in the part # and many replacement 130" belts come up. Buy it now for $19.95 & free shipping....what a deal! 130" belt received alright but it's a regular v belt. I don't give this much of a chance here. If it lasts 10 hours I'll be surprised. The junk they sell now days is disgusting. I should of went right to the local simplicity dealer here and took it in the shorts from the start. But I didn't. Not after I spent $2.50 for aluminum shear keys for a push mower? I'm guessing this $20 belt would of been $100. Sorry for the rant.

Just guessing here. Would it be possible to buy two of the generic belts and install one in each groove ? Sounds as this would this would still be cheaper than OEM BELT ?

If this would work I would think you would have to install two new belts each time one would fail as one new along with one stretched used would not work well.

Just a thought, maybe with idlers, guides etc. two separate belts would not work ?

I just brought a aluminum shear key for .50 cents From a Amish small engine shop a month ago, Thought that was high. Maybe you should shop around.

Thanks Bill, no it won't work. I should of carefully examined the broken belt to realize it was double v so my mistake but I had no idea how long it was. I was at the mercy of the part # order search. At that point I should of knew it was 130" then looked up a double v 130". They got them but almost double what I paid but I'm sure the dealer here is outrageous. No sense in returning this one. Just run it until it breaks. Meanwhile, ordering the double v tomorrow & a 10 pack of keys for $4.99.

I've rarely been able to substitute any industrial or automotive belt on a riding mower or garden tractor.

Chances are, someone selling aftermarket belts are just repackaging an off the shelf belt that is "pretty close" to the original.

They just don't work.

The part # should be under the hood for the belt. I have never found any aftermarket belts that will work on the Orange mowers.BTW JD uses the same type of double V belts.

Do a search for Gates Powerband belts. We used them on a field dynamometer. Hal

Someone makes the belts for Simplicity, Deere, whatever. Get the right part# and hunt around. The OP's Ebay purchase was NOT the right belt. Either the description was wrong and you need to get back with the seller (or complain to Ebay if he doesn't make it right) or the poster didn't check close enough. You have to do your homework buying on line.
