never had this problem til a couple of weeks ago. the engine will run for about 15 minutes then loose spark to the right side of the engine. I put new points and condensor( condensor is 28 bucks now, unbelievable) tried different plugs and I have 3 coils that I know are all good. its a series 2 in a cadet 682. any help? thanks......

Are you sure you are losing spark? Is the engine missing on one side? You could have a sticking valve. I've had this happen.

yeah its loosing spark. when it starts missing i take it to the garage pull the plugs and only one side is firing.

Two things you could try.

1-the orig plug leads were carbon, these can/do break down at terminal connections in addition leads dry out & develop carbon trackes in insulation & short to block/head after lead gets hot.Kohler manual recommends if reuseing old leads cutting plug lead off 3/8" at coil end then twisting/pushing lead down into coil tower till lead fully seated at bottom & spike inbedded in carbon wire core,if that doesn't work replace lead same my have an internal break/high resistance or insulation breaking down & spark shorting to block/head.

2-if eng has elect choke, disconnect same, one side of choke coil is connected to coil,if resistor in choke assembly is shorting to ground after eng gets hot it may be pulling battery voltage to coil down & you don't have enough voltage to coil to fire both plugs.

Clean the contacts inside of the coil. I had one that did the same thing. also replace plug wires at same time.

Unless kohler changed design of coil according to service manual for series I & II plug leads have a boot on each lead at coil tower, boot is pulled off tower & slid up lead, lead is then twisted CCW while pulling up on at same time to remove from tower.when reinstalling lead is twisted CW & pushed down at same time till seated then lead boot reinstalled on tower.

thanks for the help. I played around now for a couple of weeks with this problem. here it seems all it was, the plug wires. I took 2 off my m farmall and just ran it for about 45 minutes and it never missed a beat. I guess 30 year old wires neede to be replaced with 60 year old wires......... get a couple of "new" ones this weekend
